Chapters 1-5
Huckleberry Finn was introduced to us and then the club/ gang was made and they were talking about how they wanted to kill people and huck talks about his dads death. The timeline was in the southern west when slaves were legal to own because they have slaves in the book and have words they would say back then.Well the perspective of a 12 year old changes the point of the story and how a 12 year old looks at slavery and what it's like to grow up back then. |
Chapters 5-11
1.He doesn't want huck to attend school and threatens huck and when he goes back he locks him up. 3. Huckleberry doesn't want to seem like someone who is an abolitionist by helping jim he is felt like one. 4.He is nervous and twitchy, can't thread the needle, throws a piece of lead at the rat. |
Chapters 12-16
Jim gets very upset with Huck for pretending it was all a dream but reading and evaluating this scene shows me that if someone gets mad at you for something fairly small it means that they care about you and want to be your good friend. Jim and Huck worry that they will miss Cairo, the town at the mouth of the Ohio River, which runs into the free states.While Huck’s head hurts about helping Jim escape from his “rightful owner,” Miss Watson, especially after all she has done for Huck. |
Chapter 17-21
1.The Grangerford family is a very nice family and offered huck to stay with them as long as he likes and huck is pleased with how the grangerfords treat him as one of their own. 2. The reason they put this into the book was because it shows the differences before the civil war and how people used to treat each other if they were different. 3.Huck is sad and doesn't really know how to cope with his emotions and he doesn't want to talk about the big battle to much so he decides that it would be best for him to just end his day early. 4. They are two con men that huck and jim rescue out of town they scam people for money and goods. 5.The idea with running the raft is that jim and huck aren't completley sure about the king and duke because they don't know if they are going to scam them next. |
Chapter 22-26
1.That line might fetch people because the men think it's going to be something really special. Something just for them, since there are no women or children allowed.. 2.Huck doesn't think that it'll make a difference if Jim knows that the King and the Duke are liars. They're still going to act the same way. Nothing will change. 3.Huck is talking about how the King and the Duke are pretending to be the brothers of a man who just died because he has a lot of money. They want to get the money so they're pretending to be his family and faking being heartbroken over this man's death. 4. They decide to stay to get more money. The Duke wanted to leave. He didn't want to rob the orphans of everything they had but the King refused. |
Chapters 27-30
1) Back in this day, it was common for people to stay alongside their dead family adn friends to protect them from insects adn rodents. This was called "Shemira". 2) Huck is showing again how much empathy he has for people, Mary Jane being very upset with the fact that slave families were being torn apart, Huck explains how they will see each-other again. 3) The townspeople used two methods in trying to identify who the brother who the frauds were. One of these methods was testing handwriting samples by having each comparing it to letters that have been sent from the real Harvey. Chapter 36-40
In the process of breaking Jim free, what is Tom’s motivation? What is Huck’s motivation? (Why are they doing it?) In the process of setting Jim free Tom's motivation is very different than Huck's motivation. 2. What do Huck and Tom mean when they say they “let on” about something? Why do they do this? (Begins on chapter 37) When Tom and Huck use the words "let on" when they say something, in their context "let on" means "pretend". 3. Why is Tom writing the letters and posting warnings? Why did he give instructions to his aunt and uncle’s slave? What are his motivations for this? (Chapter 39) Uncle Silas tells that Jim had run away, Aunt Sally is in panic because the house is out of control and everything is completely upside down. 4. We’ve worked a great deal on this novel’s satirical elements. How is the planning and plotting of Jim’s escape by Tom and Huck satire? The plotting and planning of Jim's escape has been thought through multiple ways by both Huck and Tom. Huck wants to make the escape as easy and quick as possible to avoid flaws and getting into the least amount of trouble. 5.Towards the end of the chapter Huck says “I knew he was white inside” about Jim. Why does he say this and what does he mean? Before this was stated, Tom and Huck escape Jim. Although in the process of doing so boys were being shot as as they ran and Tom was shot in the calf. |

1. Huck is praying about a lie he has been telling to himself to make him feel bad about taking Jim away from Mrs. Watson and helping him escape slavery. He is very upset an under a lot of stress He then went up to the river. He was very upset about Jim being caught, so he was trying to think of ways to get him out of slavery.
